Who We Are
Vibrant Minds of Maryland, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created with heart and purpose to support homeschooling families throughout Central Maryland. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or have years of experience, we’re here to walk alongside you—offering expert guidance, fresh ideas, and a welcoming space to grow and connect.
We believe learning flourishes in community with others. That’s why we host workshops led by specialists, bring in local mentors and professionals to share their passions, and offer scholarships that support both students and parents. From neurodiverse learning strategies to hands-on enrichment and conference opportunities, we’re committed to helping families access the tools they need to thrive.
Rooted in collaboration and care, we’re proud to serve as a bridge between homeschoolers and the broader community. As a secular and neuro-affirming organization, we honor each family’s unique path and create space where every learner feels seen and supported—because when families thrive, communities flourish.

Hi! I’m Sherri Mehta
Hi! I’m a homeschooling mom of two, lifelong educator, and passionate advocate for literature-based learning. Before stepping into the homeschooling world, I spent years as a high school English teacher and a university lecturer. I hold both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English Literature, and I’ve been teaching, mentoring, and encouraging young people for over two decades.
I’m also a published writer and the owner and operator of Freedom Fighters, Freedom Writers, where I lead in-person and virtual workshops focused on the lives and letters of AfricanAmerican men who served in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. In addition, I host Dr. Ladybug’s Lit Circle, a virtual literature circle designed to help middle and high school homeschoolers engage with great books through meaningful conversations and hands-on projects.
I’ve had the honor of presenting at homeschooling conferences like the BFHES Annual Teach-In and the SEA Homeschooling Conference. My specialty is literature-based history, and I love creating spaces where stories come alive and young scholars feel seen, heard, and inspired.
At the heart of everything I do is a deep love for teaching and learning—and a commitment to building a supportive, empowering community for homeschooling families.

Hi! I’m Ashaunta Watson
Hi! I’m a firm believer in nurturing a love of learning in all children. Sometimes that has a straight-forward definition and other times it may be a journey – sometimes meandering, at times fast, other times slow and all things in between. And how do I know this? Because I have traveled it – with my own child, with other youths entrusted to my care, in library circles, in private daycare classes, tutoring elementary students, organizing educational field trips for large groups and even mentoring other parents to become educators and all things in between.
My focus on education and alternative methods of learning trace all the way back to my undergraduate days teaching ESOL to immigrants in Baltimore City and Howard County. The decade I spent at Gateway (formerly the Hearing and Speech Agency) further honed my goals of making learning inclusive, hands-on and accessible to all, a belief that has resonated with so many parents choosing to homeschool their children.
What began as a journey to educate my own children has grown into a deep passion for the homeschooling community. I enjoy helping parents create meaningful experiences, a joyful environment and successful learning for their scholars. Creating a supportive environment is truly a benefit to all. In addition to operating Vibrant Minds, I offer a curriculum and resource lending library and facilitate immersive learning via. field trips. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refresh your approach, I’m here to walk alongside you and share the tools, encouragement, and resources you need to thrive.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to building a supportive, inclusive, and neuro-affirming community where homeschooling families can thrive. We believe that learning should be accessible, enriching, and rooted in respect for each child’s unique way of experiencing the
world.
We are guided by the belief that every child has gifts worth celebrating, and with the right environment, those gifts can flourish. As a secular organization, we are dedicated to creating a space where all families feel seen, supported, and welcomed—regardless of background or belief.
Through meaningful connections, shared resources, and a focus on community, we aim to empower families and create a home education journey that is joyful, sustainable, and grounded in belonging. Together, we are building a vibrant, connected community where families feel empowered, and every child has the opportunity to shine.
